Coleman Remediation Services

Oliver Lancaster, Principal Environmental Engineer, Wales & West Utilities Ltd
Coleman Remediation diligently kept a focus on designing, testing, trialling and delivering this ground-breaking project to treat hazardous sludge material from eight gasholders across four sites in the south west of England and reuse it as a sustainable engineering fill material within one of the below ground tanks.

This innovative streamlining of technologies pushed the boundaries of what was perceived to be possible in demolition of gasholders and used the CL:AIRE Definition of Waste Code of Practice in a way that hadn’t been considered before, which required strong technical justifications to present to, and agree with, the environmental regulators.

Not only did this project offer significant cost and carbon savings compared to the traditional incineration solution, but also provides a benchmark for other Gas Distribution Networks who own ~300 other gasholders in the UK to achieve a scaled-up benefit to the environment and reduced energy bills for gas consumers.”
Anthony Pearson, Civil Engineer, RWE Generation
Coleman Remediation provided an excellent service managing the land remediation of diesel contaminated soil on a former power station site. The original scope of 132k expanded due to the discovery of significantly more widespread contamination during the excavation phase.

Coleman Remediation worked closely with the client organisation to manage the arising issues, keeping the client well informed, control costs and still meeting the program requirements despite the vastly increased quantities.Coleman Remediation also liaised well with the Environment Agency, the other site contractors and other stakeholder as required. The site was well managed, with high safety standards and quality of work was observed.

The work was conducted under an NEC3 contract and the contractor worked in the spirit of "mutual trust and cooperation" in line with contract principals.
